Every piece of Sanowectos ceramic begins with two humble elements: earth and water. But the transformation from raw clay to a graceful, functional vessel is a journey of patience and skill. Here’s a glimpse into the alchemy behind your favorite pieces:
- Wedge & Wheel: It all starts with wedging the clay to remove air bubbles, ensuring an even consistency. Then, on the potter’s wheel, the magic happens. Centering the clay is an act of focus, from which the form emerges—pulled and shaped by the guiding pressure of the artisan’s hands.
- Dry & Refine: The newly formed piece, called “leather-hard,” is slowly dried before being trimmed and refined, defining its final foot and silhouette.
- The First Fire (Bisque): The bone-dry piece enters the kiln for its first firing, the bisque fire. This transforms the fragile clay into a porous, resilient canvas ready for glazing.
- The Colorful Dance (Glazing): We carefully dip, pour, or brush on our specially formulated, non-toxic glazes. This is where science and art merge, as the glaze chemistry will react in the final fire to create the stunning colors and textures you love.
- The Final Fire (Glaze Firing): The glazed pieces undergo a final, high-temperature firing. This is the moment of true alchemy, where the kiln’s intense heat permanently fuses the glaze to the clay, creating a glossy, durable, and food-safe surface.
